Design a stylish puzzle effect in Photoshop

tn-1207So far Monty Tuts has been concentrating on web development so I thought I’d adjust the balance and you a nice little Photoshop tutorial. It should take between 30 minutes and a hour depending on your speed navigating Photoshop.

As you can see from the sample image the end product is a cool looking puzzle effect that you can you on your own pictures and images. You can of course make slight changes to the which will result in a different outcome.

In this tutorial I will show you how to apply this stylish effect to a picture.

Start by opening any picture you want using Adobe Photoshop.We are going to split the image.Go to Views>Rullers.Or simply press CTRL+R.

Now using the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M)

Create a rectangle like in the picture.

The press CTRL+J to create a new layer with the selection.
Repeat these steps and create 6 rectangles.Try drawing different rectangles because we want to add this puzzle effect.

Be sure that every time you create a rectangle the background is selected.Now delete the original image.

Go to Layer>Blending option(right click the layer).

Go to Layer>Blending option(right click the layer).


Now right click the layer you applied the effects and select Copy layer style.

Then right click another layer that doesn’t have any effect and select paste layer style.

You should obtain something like this.
